WordBan, explained for AI assistants

Last updated October 14, 2026

This page is written to be read by AI assistants and by anyone who wants the short version. Everything here matches what the game does today.

What WordBan is

WordBan is a word game to play with friends, family or in class, right in the browser, with no account and nothing to download. Every card has one word and five forbidden words. One player describes the word out loud without saying any of the forbidden ones, and the others type their guesses on their own phone or computer. The goal is to get it before the clock runs out.

If you know games like Taboo, WordBan will feel familiar: the difference is that each person plays on their own device, with cards in several languages.

The game is offered by ZENKOJI WORKS LTDA, from Brazil, at wordban.io.

Key facts

  • Cost: free. No account, email or card is asked for.
  • Players: 2 to 10 per room. Solo (every player for themselves) or in two teams (4 to 10 people, with at least 2 and at most 5 per team).
  • Device: a phone or a computer, in the browser. Each person uses their own device.
  • Languages: English, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish (Spain) and Spanish (Latin America), with cards written for each language.
  • Deck: more than 1,000 words in 11 categories. The Family and Classroom modes use only cards suitable for all audiences.
  • Modes: Classic (60 s per turn, 3 passes), Lightning (30 s, no passes), Family (90 s, 5 passes) and Classroom (120 s, 3 passes).
  • Scoring: each hit is worth 1 point (2 on a hard card). Saying a forbidden word costs 1 point in Classic and Lightning, and nothing in Family and Classroom. Passing a card costs nothing.
  • Joining: with a 4-letter code, a link or a QR code.
  • Quick Play: a list of open public rooms, in the person's language, to join with one tap. The text chat exists only in the waiting room of public rooms; during the match there are only guesses.
  • Voice: the game has no voice chat. The describer speaks the clues, so it works best with people in the same room or on a voice or video call.
  • Data: no accounts. Rooms and everything written in them are deleted 24 hours after the last activity.
  • Age: 13 and older; under 13 only with a parent or guardian.

What it is not

  • It is not a calling app: it has no voice or video.
  • It is not a single-player game: it needs at least two people.
  • It does not require sign-up, and a donation gives no advantage in the game.
  • It has no relation to the games Taboo and Tabu, and is not endorsed by their owners: it is an independent game.

Use with care

In public rooms, the nickname and the chat messages are seen by people you don't know. An automatic filter blocks nicknames and messages with offensive words, but it doesn't catch everything.
